The Importance of Protein
Protein is one of the most important nutrients for all of us to build and maintain lean muscle and ultimately lose fat.
It is the building block of who we are.
But, what happens if we don’t eat enough every day?
Our skin, hair, and nails begin to have problems and may become brittle.
We lose muscle mass.
Bone density decreases, and we may be prone to more bone fractures, or even shin splints.
Our immune system may become weaker and less effective against fighting disease and infections.
And, we may find ourselves hungry all the time. Even after eating a meal!
Check out this graphic below for the chain reaction of protein!
Where do we find protein?
Animal Sources: chicken, turkey, beef, pork, seafood, eggs, dairy
Plant Sources: beans, legumes, lentils, grains, nuts, seeds
When it comes to choosing, quality should always be #1! Look for packaging that reads: “grass fed,” “pasture raised,” and “wild caught.”
Eating enough protein can also be a struggle. Here’s some examples!
Here’s a quick tip: when you sit down for your next meal, select a protein source from above and add a palm size portion to your plate!
You’ll feel more full for longer, and have increased energy for the rest of the day!
If you’re struggling with consistency in the kitchen, then you need some habits.
Habit based nutritional practices is the way to go if you’re looking to make some serious body composition changes.
